Usually on weekday mornings, after several hours of removing myself from my bed, I hop on my computer and go to biblegateway.com where they have posted a verse of the day. Today's verse is one of my favorites:
“For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.”- Colossians 2:9-10
I love this verse because it holds two great truths; our position in Christ, and the authority of Christ.
God came down in the form of a man (100% God/100% man.) Jesus humbled himself, left His perfect Heavenly abode to come to our very imperfect world. That baffles me because I cannot even start to grasp the mercy and grace of God. Along with being merciful and graceful, he upholds the highest position of power in the universe. The last part of the verse declares "who (Christ) is the head over every power and authority." I especially like this part of the verse because when you look at the life of Christ He does not wave a banner declaring that He is totally sovereign, but shows that He is through His actions.
Now that makes me think, where do I, a believer in Christ, fit into this verse? Some people today think that the "fullness of Christ" means that they to will become gods like Christ is God. I think it means, in the simplest terms that we are all at some point (until we recieve salvation) lone puzzle peices (lame metaphor) and our own worst enemies. God has given everyone the knowledge of Himself, therefore everyone has the same privilege of getting to know our Savior. As we go through life, our incompletenes becomes more and more apparent. We let our sin nature blind us into thinking that we are our own "puzzle" and that Christ needs to somehow fit into our lives. When I was not saved, I was a puzzle piece trying to fit into other peoples seemingly awesome puzzles. It wasn't until I realized that my "puzzle piece" or my life was not my own that I found the only place where I found the perfect fit was in the presence and family of God.
So, what did i take from biblegatway's verse of the day? Christ is God, I am not.
